What is a UTR Rating?

A UTR Rating is a number that provides a real and accurate measurement of skill level. A player’s UTR Rating is a number between 1.00 and 16.50.

One match result is all it takes to receive a projected UTR Rating. After approximately five matches, the rating becomes fully reliable. As matches are played and entered into the system, a player’s UTR Rating will increase or decrease over time to reflect their current skill level.

What match results in Australia count towards players UTR Rating?

What match results in Australia count towards players UTR Rating?

The Tennis Australia (TA) platforms from which player results contribute to UTR Ratings are; Tournament Planner and League Manager/Match Centre.

We are currently working to improve the volume of competitive matches sent to UTs platform from TA platforms, however from time-to-time some match results may not count towards a player UTR Rating. A summary of the conditions are outlined below:

  • Tournament Planner

All Australian Competitive Play Endorsed Events will contribute towards a players UTR Rating, provided that a player has registered and entered accordingly.

Endorsed events can be viewed at https://www.tennis.com.au/competitiveplay/calendar

Note all players should complete their competitive player profile as per the following  instructions HERE to ensure results are uploaded as efficiently as possible.

  • League Manager/Match Centre

All League Manager / Match Centre matches count towards a players UTR Rating, provided that all participants competing the match are 15 years or older, or for younger players if they have provided the appropriate consent (by completing their competitive play profile.) If an individual is under 15 and has not provided the appropriate consent, this match will not count towards any of the players UTR.

All players should complete their competitive player profile as per the following instructions HERE to ensure results are uploaded as efficiently as possible.

As an example of when a result may not count, please refer to the following example; if your doubles partner or opponent has not registered and activated their UTR Rating, the result may not contribute.

  • For Events and Leagues, no modified ball types will contribute to UTR Ratings (no Red, Orange or Green Ball matches)

Note: Although eligible League Manager/Match Centre matches are sent to Universal Tennis daily, it can take some time for results to be imported into the correct players profile. By completing your Competitive Player Profile, you are ensuring your results are given the most efficient process possible. Please allow up to 7-10 business days.

How do I ensure my matches count towards the UTR Rating?

To allow the best opportunity for your matches to be provided to Universal Tennis, you need to ensure you have registered and completed your competitive player profile as per the following instructions HERE

What if a score is incorrect on my Match Centre and/or UTR Profile?

In the instance that you notice an incorrect result on your Universal Tennis player profile that has come from Tournament Planner and/or League Manager/Match Centre; please contact the respective competition administrator. Tennis Australia cannot edit results for events/competitions administered by associations, clubs or other providers. An incorrect result may be updated on Tournament Planner or League Manager/Match by the competition administrator; if the result is amended the scores will be resent to Universal Tennis for processing.

How long does it take to process a result with UT once official?

Tennis Australia sends official scores daily to UT for processing and the UTR Rating updates once every Tuesday morning for Australian Players. Please note that some results may take a few days for UT to process and may not appear on your UTR profile for several days.

Other Tennis platform providers.

Competitions administered on a platform separate to that of Tennis Australia and UTR may or may not contribute to UTR Ratings. Please contact your platform provider for further information.

What happens to my UTR Rating when I merge my duplicate profiles?

Merging duplicate profiles is important to ensure you have the most accurate UTR Rating, have all your match history attributed to your profile and enable administrators to provide you the best competitive play experience.

When you have a profile merge request approved, your UTR Ratings may require updating. See the below outlined scenarios that outline what will happen to your UTR Ratings.

When your profile does not contain any UTR Ratings and the duplicate profile has UTR Ratings:

  • if the merge request is approved by Tennis Australia your UTR Rating will update to the rating from the merged profile, and will be recalculated in the next weekly Tuesday ratings update.

When your profile contains UTR Ratings and the duplicate profile has UTR Ratings:

  • if the merge request is approved by Tennis Australia your UTR Rating will remain the same as displayed on your own dashboard, and will be recalculated in the next weekly Tuesday ratings update.

If you need information on how to find duplicate profiles and request a merge, check out our support article HERE .

What is the UTR Rating?

The UTR Rating is a global tennis rating that identifies and reflects a player’s current skill level based on head-to-head match scores, and rates all players across age, gender, and nationality on the same 16-point scale. Australian players can have a UTR Rating – from the pros to juniors to social tennis players. If you’ve played in any Tennis Australia competitions, you might already have a UTR Rating.

Which UTR Rating will be used?

Throughout the Australian Competitive Play environment, the verified UTR Rating will be used. This rating reflects results from Australian Endorsed competitive play offerings.

How does the UTR Rating work?

The UTR rating calculates a player’s standard by looking at their past 30 matches within 12 months. A players UTR Rating is the weighted average of all 30 matches, so one, two or three specific matches will not have any great effect on a players rating. As a player improves, their UTR Rating will improve to ensure level-based play is always achievable. A players UTR Rating is compared to all players with a UTR Rating, ensuring your standard is always relative.

The full inputs associated with the algorithm can be found at: support.universaltennis.com and blog.universaltennis.com.

UTR Ratings for domestic play in Australia will be updated on a weekly basis as of a Tuesday. Each Tuesday the updated UTR Rating will be published to your profile on Match Centre to view.

Do both Event and League matches count towards my UTR Rating?

Australian Competitive Play Endorsed Events will contribute towards your UTR Rating.

Across Leagues, there are a range of rating systems currently in use and as such, the UTR Rating will incrementally be introduced across 2022 following completion of the summer leagues season.

If your League is currently contributing to the UTR Rating, this will continue from 1 January 2022. If you are not sure if your league is currently contributing, please contact your local League deliverer or Member Association to find out more.

Note that all players must provide appropriate consent for League matches to be sent to Universal Tennis. Match Centre results will count towards your UTR provided that all participants competing the match are 15 years or older, or for younger players if they have provided the appropriate consent. What is the difference between the UTR Rating and a ranking?

Ratings have a demonstrated superiority in being able to better identify a player’s level as opposed to a ranking. A rating considers a number of data inputs, including but not limited to your opponent and the final score of the match, ensuring every game counts.

I have multiple myUTR.com profiles, how do I merge them?

Please refer to UTRs support page here https://support.myutr.com/en/support/solutions/articles/9000174733-my-name-is-listed-multiple-times-in-search-why-

Why aren’t all of my match results showing on my UTR profile?

We are currently working to improve the volume of competitive matches on UTRs platform. Match results may not appear on your UTR profile for the following reasons:

  • One or more players have not provided adequate consent to data sharing
  • The competition is not sanctioned
  • The competition was administered on a platform separate to that of Tennis Australia and UTR.

Please ensure you have completed your Competitive Player Profile to provide the best opportunity for all match results to contribute to your UTR Rating.

Why is all of my match history not available on UTR?

Backdated tournament and Match Centre results are not provided to UTR and only the eligible matches from the daily match send will be available.

Why has my UTR been removed from Match Centre?

From time to time, UTR may advise Tennis Australia that a player’s UTR is no longer active which may result in the removal of your UTR from your Match Centre profile. Don’t worry though, as soon as you start playing matches again a rating can be calculated, provided the results are eligible to counted towards your UTR.

Where can I view where I stand in relation to other players?

The top 64 Australian players within the below age and gender categories can be viewed at tennis.com.au/topaussieplayers. Players outside the top 64 will be able to view their rating only. This is a different approach to the previous ranking system. Players should focus on playing in the appropriate competitive offering for their standard and not focus on the rating/standing itself. A player’s UTR Rating will improve as players continue to develop.

Top 64 player list will be update on a Tuesday morning for the following categories:

  • 12/U Boys
  • 12/U Girls
  • 14/U Boys
  • 14/U Girls
  • 16/U Boys
